Complacency- No more!

Just when things started to mellow out in our lives, someone throws a big stick in our spokes!!!

Okay, so maybe it's not THAT dramatic but that's essentially how I'm feeling right now :)

Our life has become very calm and predictable and it's been pretty nice. It's the first time umm... EVER that it's been this way. We've always had a great bit of stress on our shoulders but the last 15 months or so have been really nice and mellow. So, what did we do?! We decided to change it up a BIT.

Months and months and months ago, Wes started talking about applying for flight school. It's always been a dream of his and even as a kid, he took private fixed-wing lessons. I've been pushing him for a long time to send in his flight packet (it's like an application with info on his whole army career, including letters of recommendation) but it's not something you do lightly. He had one done in 2014 but wasn't able to send it in because his eye surgery he had 2 months prior hadn't been signed off by the unit yet. So, the flight packet got put to the side to be used the next year. Wes ended up landing a really good job in October 2014 that included a promotion and raise so that flight packet ended up just collecting dust as he settled into his new position (which he loves).

Right after Thanksgiving this year, I had joined Wes for lunch in his office and I randomly brought up flight school again. I kind of nudged him to reapply as he had everything ready to go in it. Why not, right?!  I think that that nudge was all he needed to try again.

This January he sent in his flight packet again, with all the new letters of recommendation and the eye surgery approval. Within two short weeks, he had his interview. And just last week, we heard that not only was his flight packet accepted, he's the TOP OF THE LIST to go to flight school!

No f'n way.

NO F'N WAY!!!!

Just like that, our plans for the future take a sharp right turn!

Why such a sudden, sharp right turn, you ask?!?!

Flight school isn't just an every day training like all the other ones Wes has done for the army. This particular school will have our whole family pack up and move to Alabama for a year. ALABAMA!

As of right now, details are still up in the air. We are still in the early process of it all. Right now we are waiting to hear how many flight school openings his unit will have for 2016. Since he's the top of the list, all they need is just 1 slot for him to go. As long as they do have an opening, he will be leaving for 6-week training late this summer and then the whole family will be packing up and moving to the Heart of Dixie sometime at the beginning of next year roughly.

So with all this eventually happening, that means we should start getting prepared. We've been in our current house a month-shy of 5 years, which means there's a LOT I need to get rid of. We also need to get the house ready to sell. We had planned on selling this year anyways, but this really lights the fire under our butts. I don't want to have to deal with renting it out while we are gone and I think it would be much easier if we just sold and rented until we had to leave. Then once he's finished, we can come back and build our dream home!

I'm excitedly nervous for the future. I've never lived outside of Montana and I'm ready for the adventure. The best part is, if I get too homesick, we will be coming back to Montana after a year- though we don't have to ;)

Let this journey begin!
